The Master Node of Distribution Networks

The 5000 kVA Oil Immersed Transformer serves as the primary power source for large-scale industrial parks, hospitals, and district substations. At this capacity, the unit bridges the gap between high-voltage transmission and local distribution, acting as the "Master" unit that feeds multiple downstream transformers.

While functionally categorized as a large oil immersed distribution transformer, its engineering aligns more closely with power transformer standards. It is designed to handle complex load profiles where voltage stability is critical.

Active Voltage Stabilization (OLTC)

At 5 MVA, a simple fixed tap setting is rarely sufficient to handle daily grid fluctuations. Instead of standard off-circuit taps, this unit is engineered with a robust On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC).

This mechanism allows the transformer to physically shift tap positions under full load conditions without interrupting the power supply. When connected to an external regulation panel (AVR), the transformer actively counters voltage sags caused by peak industrial shifts. It dynamically adjusts the ratio (typically across a ±10% range) to ensure the secondary voltage remains rock-steady, protecting sensitive downstream equipment from undervoltage trips.

Differential Protection Readiness

Protecting a high-capital asset like a 5 MVA transformer requires fault detection speeds faster than what standard fuses or breakers can offer.

We design the tank to accommodate turret-mounted Current Transformers (CTs) directly inside the HV and LV bushing turrets. This configuration is essential for implementing Differential Protection Schemes. By monitoring the current balance between input and output, the system can identify and isolate microscopic internal winding faults (such as turn-to-turn shorts) in milliseconds-long before they escalate into catastrophic tank failures.

Installation & Application Context

  • Industrial Main Substation: Taking 33kV power from the grid and stepping it down to 11kV or 6.6kV to feed a ring of smaller distributed transformers across a factory floor.
  • Mining Heavy Equipment: Powering large draglines or crushers where the starting voltage drop must be actively compensated by the OLTC.
  • District Electrification: Acting as the zonal feeder for a residential township, supplying roughly 3,000 to 4,000 homes.

FAQ

Q1: What voltage configurations are available for the 5000 kVA transformer?

The standard configuration is 33kV primary / 11kV secondary (IEC 60076) or 35kV primary / 11kV secondary (GB 1094). Custom voltage ratios - including 33/6.6kV and 35/0.4kV - are available upon request. Please submit your project specification for a tailored configuration.

Q2: Does this transformer support on-load tap changing (OLTC), and what is the regulation range?

Yes. The unit is equipped with an On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC) as standard, covering a ±10% regulation range across 17 tap positions (±8 × 1.25%). An Off-Circuit Tap Changer (OCTC) is available as an alternative for applications where supply voltage is stable.

Q3: Which international standards does this transformer comply with?

This transformer is manufactured in compliance with IEC 60076. Full type test reports (including temperature rise, dielectric, and short-circuit withstand tests) are available upon request. Please contact us to confirm certification requirements for your target market.

Q4: What is the lead time, and can the transformer be customized?

Standard lead time is 8–12 weeks from order confirmation and approved drawings. Customization options include winding material (copper or aluminum), cooling configuration (ONAN / ONAF), protection accessories, and enclosure rating. A detailed quotation will be provided based on your specification.

Q5: What after-sales support is provided for overseas projects?

We provide commissioning documentation, operation & maintenance manuals, and remote technical support as standard. On-site commissioning assistance and spare parts supply can be arranged upon request. Please discuss your project location and requirements with our technical team at the inquiry stage.
