Capacity Flexibility and Peak Management
The 6000 kVA Oil Immersed Transformer typically functions as the primary feeder for district substations or large manufacturing plants. Unlike smaller distribution units, this equipment is often specified with a dynamic thermal rating to match fluctuating demand curves.
Classified as a medium-sized oil immersed power transformer, it is engineered to operate efficiently under two distinct regimes. It handles continuous base loads (approx. 4500-4800 kVA) using natural convection (ONAN). However, during peak operational hours, the integrated cooling fans automatically engage (ONAF), forcing air through the radiators to unlock the full 6000 kVA capacity without exceeding winding temperature limits.
Logistics-Ready Tank Design
At 6 MVA, the physical footprint of the transformer becomes a logistical challenge. A key structural feature of this unit is the use of Detachable Panel Radiators.
- Transport Logic: To comply with road transport width restrictions, the radiator banks are bolted onto the main tank via butterfly valves. They are shipped separately and assembled on-site.
- Maintenance: This modular design allows maintenance teams to isolate and remove a single damaged radiator bank for repair without draining the entire main tank or decommissioning the oil immersed power transformer.
Core Assembly & Noise Control
A 6000 kVA unit involves a massive magnetic core, which can generate significant structure-borne noise (100Hz hum). To mitigate this-especially for installations near residential zones-we employ Step-Lap Core Stacking.
- Flux Density Management: By optimizing the working flux density (typically kept below 1.7 Tesla) and using high-grade Hi-B silicon steel, we keep the magnetostriction vibration to a minimum.
- Clamping: The core is secured with fiberglass-reinforced bands rather than steel bolts to eliminate flux leakage paths and reduce the operational sound level to <65 dB.

Typical Application Context
- Urban Substations: Receiving 33kV transmission and stepping down to 11kV for local neighborhood distribution rings.
- Industrial Expansion: Ideal for factories expanding their production lines where the load has grown beyond the standard 2500/3150 kVA limit.
- Backup Power: Serving as the grid-tie transformer for 5-6 MW diesel generator power plants.
